When the curious case of Benjamin Button plays in real life

My grandmother lived well to the grand old age of 90 years. It was a life well lived. She has had her fair share of happiness, struggle and calmness. She always had the Bible next to her from the time I can remember — probably the reason why she was even able to withstand the loss of my father to cancer and the untimely loss of my cousin.

It was only during her last few months that she really struggled physically. I noticed she was becoming more like a baby. She needed someone to hold her while she walked. She needed someone to help her with her food. She was increasingly growing unaware of what was happening to her body. It once so happened that my mother saw my grandma combing her hair but then she noticed my grandma was bleeding. Little did we realise that she hurt her head when she slipped in the bathroom. My grandma was astonished when we told her she had hurt her head and was bleeding. She was slowly losing her ability to feel pain.

And on my first night in London, I received a call from my mother telling my grandmother had just passed away. Whilst my friends were trying to book my flight tickets back home, I went to the St.Paul’s Cathedral to share with the lord my love for my grandma.

One year hence, I was blessed with a handsome nephew. I adored every move of his and he bought in a lot of happiness for all of us.

Over time I started noticing my nephew was looking, moving and having incoherent actions just like how my grandma had in her last few years. Especially when he looks at me and smiles, he reminded me of my grandma a lot.

And then I realised all of us actually have a chance to play the role of the curious case of Benjamin Button in our very own lives.
